I used a harmonic balance puller from Autozone (they have a free tool loaner program in California). Use some penetrating oil, tighten the puller, tap the balancer with a hammer, and repeat. There are two threaded holes in the hub and that's the only place that you should be pulling on it. The outside ring is supported by vulcanized rubber.
Like the guys have said, soak it good with penetrationg oil and keep some tension on the puller, might take a couple of days of soaking with pressure on it to pop it off.

You'll destroy your balancer. I used a 9/16" socket in the hole in the center of the balancer to push against. I don't know if the crank lugs were on the 235s or not. Although it hasn't been discussed for a while this subject has been discussed at length before. A search using balancer as the subject should get you hours of reading.
