It is mostly stock and mostly complete. The engine runs great. I couldn't get it in the saddle bag of the Goldwing so I'm going back with the truck and trailer to fetch it. I seldom checked this forum before but now that I'm a member of the Burb Fraternity I'll be checking in often. There's a lot I need to learn. | | | | Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 829 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 829 | That is one nice looking '54 cletis - it looks pretty solid. There's nothing like getting a new toy. Too bad you couldn't have put the cycle in it and brought them both back at the same time, huh? Regardless, it should be a fun trip going to get it. | | | | Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 1,781 Master Gabster | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 1,781 | I like the GMC part! It looks like it came with at least one rear seat. Do you have plans for the burb or are or just going to see where it takes you? | | | | Tony'N Weatherford Unregistered | Tony'N Weatherford Unregistered | Cletus, take a tape measure with you and measure that frame on the car-port next time you go into town. i got it out of a tf 'burb. it doesn't hurt to start planning now.

I've had my '54 pick up torn completely apart for over 5 years and it's still in pieces. On the '56 I went the improve as you go route. I've been driving and enjoying it when it wasn't down for improvements. That's my advice to anyone who gets a truck and has the urge to tear it to pieces.
It has what I suspect is the rear seat in the center position. Tony is talking about a center seat frame from a task force. Anyone know if it is a bolt-in replacement for mine? | | | | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 1,516 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 1,516 | Colorado seems to be the place for 'burbs lately. I bought mine there not long ago, and i've seen a couple more recently from Co. | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | I've had my '54 pick up torn completely apart for over 5 years and it's still in pieces. My '54 has been apart about that long too. My Suburban gets few improvments from time to time, but most days I can drive it if I choose. I agree its a much better approach!

You can modify a front seat to work if you can find someone to bend some tubing for you and with a little welding it will look fine. I actually prefer the long bench seat in the middle position, it allows me to store and haul stuff around. | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 189 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 189 | Where in Colorado did you find that nice burb ?? | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 267 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 267 | Hmmmmm. I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it!

Good luck with your project choices! | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 | Excuse me for bringing up a nearly 5 year old post but Peggy finally prodded me into writing a Gallery article on the Suburban. In it she linked to this post.
I just wanted to give an update on the seat questions above. The rear seat that came in it was from a '60-66. So was the middle one I got from Tony. They do not fit right in the '54. The seat that came in it was mounted on 2X10s which were bolted to the floor.
I managed to get a set of proper seats from Mothertrucker and drove the burb out to AZ and picked them up.
