Didnt't think this was electrical, so forgive me if i'm wrong.

Why is my antennae twice the size of a modern cars, is it the difference in radio pickup backthen or what, its almost like a CB whip!

not really 'electrical', but definitely radio

AM reception does need more antenna, depending on station location, but the original would be 'telescopic' so that it could be extended or retracted

The higher the frequency the shorter the antenna. If it bothers you push it in some. You can tune the length for the band you listen to most. You will have to push it in an inch or so and then back away so your body isn't changing the reception. Probably not going to make a ton of difference but you can push it in some.

Come now, its not that bad. I have to remember to lower my antenna when I come home. I've got the 4 section one for my 1-Ton, its six feet tall when out. Helps me pull in all those great AM stations. Well, okay, I love it because I can listen to KIXI from seattle. I am going to put the same giant antenna on my Pontiac, when I get time.

the one on my ol 57 would pick up stations from quite a distance even down all the way, which was about half as high as the windshield

It's not a problem at all, i never use the garage, It gets great reception, and it looks kinda neat flappin all over the place, i was just curious as to why it was made to be that tall.

I have a reproduction one on my 1951 and the gain increases quite a bit as it is extended. The biggest jump seems to be when it clears the roof of the cab.
