Does anyone know where to buy dash paint in a spray can? I can have it custom mixed but, If a dealer has it. It will save me time. I am looking for that silver/gold color that was used in the 53 GMC Coe trucks. It was a common color offered.

any help, Thanks ahead of time.

After doing a lot of research and having discussions on the GMC forums site: oldgmctrucks.com , we came up with what we believe to be the closest color to the original. I used it on my '51 and '53 as a single stage. You can put a clear coat if you like, but i used as a base with no top coat and it worked fine. The PPG color is: DBU 3898, DK Beige Poly. I think its a 68 Corvette color. Its also the opinion of the GMC site that gmc interior was different then chevys. There are several companys that will take that code and put it in a can for you. Go to my site and take a look at the interior colors and judge for yourself. If you have any other questions on this matter, feel free to contact me. Cecil...........

Cecil,
I came across this post and I have a question for you. I have a 1957 Chevy truck. The top of my dash is black with white "dots."
This truck hs been in my family since it was new. My question is was this stock and how would you repaint something like that? Also, is there a code for the gray interior as well as is there a code for the e-brake and steering column? I am sorry if this question is a repeat. I have been searching on Stovebolt and cant seem to find the answer to my question. Thank you for any help! Jon S.

Jon - the "white dots" are from wear and fading [cleaning?], showing undercolor .... the top of the dash was a semi-gloss dark gray called "Charcoal " with no paint code shown on any sheet I've ever seen - the rest of the dash/interior was Marble Gray, original DUCO# 73604 ... the column, support bracket, shifter, ebrake and floor are the same "charcoal" but gloss .... an original 57 dash

yeah, just worn out from all that California sunshine and too much work with the dust cloth grin you can sorta see on that pic of mine the top is faded out like that too, I think the "primer" below is actually the lighter gray, like they paint the whole thing the light gray, then shoot the top part with the flattened charcoal - I've never found a "correct" current number for that charcoal, but if you get a close match [steering column below the dash] and add some flattening agent, it'll fool your grandad wink

Bill,
I forgot to ask what would the color for the steering wheel be? Would it be the same color as the column? It looks like the wheel was a little lighter gray...

Thank you,

Jon

similar to the column but darker - I've seen'em dark enough to be called black, but not quite, altho that's 58/9's, don't know if that's the year or different plants - most 5-7's [not all!] seem to have been close to the color of the top of the dash, but gloss
