| | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,028 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,028 | I got the truck out on the highway today. First itme after install of the HEI I got 61 MPH out of a 53 3600 with a 216 and foru on the floor.
I was very impressed. I did a vac check and the gauge needle is shakey. I think that means valve issues. I will ruin it a lot int he next few weeks to see if they are just sticky form sitting. If no improbement I will look furthe rinto adjustments and sela replacement.
Any thoughts on this? Any chance this will improve on its own?

vacume guage issue, why not run a warm compression check to
see what result would be? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,028 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,028 | Already did the compression check, not bad all cylinders are between 110 and 120. I thionk this is sticky valves or valve related in some way, seals, springs or adjustment.
This run was not a full press. I am sure if I pushed it I could have gotten more out of it with the over sized tires.
I am trying to work many years of sitting in a field out of it and have gradually taken it to this level ove the last several monhths.
There are many on this site who have taken these trucks even further than this.
| | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,028 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,028 | The needle shaking on the vacuum gauge seems better. I advanced the timing slightly and get a reading of 21 on the guage.
The gauge reading drops rapidly on quick acceleration but recovers to 21 then rises to 25 or so on deceleration then stabilizes again at 21. I assume this is normal as it makes sense.
any thoughts on vacuum readings?
