The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot '60-'66 Trucks Easy part is done.

I'm restoring a 62 C-10 stepside that My father in law gave me last summer. We drove (and ejoyed) it like it was, until June of this year. With the help of my son (10) we have it diassembled down to the frame. (the easy part). My daughter (9) is learning to weld in patch panels and do body work and paint. Making it a true family project.
We are starting on the reassembly process (the less easy part). We hope to be ready for paint by the end of the year. Enjoy the pictures and videos of our progress.

Okay, now I'm just going to say this..... Your daughter can weld better than me....lol.... That's fantastic that you are getting everyone involved, makes for a great way to bond with your kids. But, I will warn you that the reassembly is what gets to seeming impossible at times. No matter what, enjoy the time spent with the kids.

Yea I know the challenges and frustrations of reassembly. (not my first rodeo as they say) I've got a great crew and we will have something to be proud of even if we don't meet our finish time goal. I think it will be something they will always remember. I know I will.

The cool part is that your kids are interested enough in the project to actually help.

It's summer, the weather is beautiful and yet during the week in our neighborhood you never see any kids out doing anything, nadda, zip.

No bike riding, no baseball, no kite flying nothing?

I guess I am just an old fart but I spent every daylight hour outside doing somethin' when I was a whippersnapper. Used to ride my bike 10 miles one way to my buddies house 'bout every day. But that was before video games, ipods, 200 channels and big screen TV.

Go figure, eh?

Very cool Legcub. Luckless is right, those kids will never forget this project they got to do with their dad. Priceless.

We live on 14 acres and our kids have always loved being outside. Working for a living and having my wife stay home to raise the young-uns, we never had extra money for play stations, or 200 channels of nothing, so alas my kids had to use thier imaginations in thier play. They play with sticks and rocks and a big pile of dirt or a rope swinging from a tree as much as thier regular toys.
They love spending time with thier dad plus they are becoming quite handy. I am so blessed.

uh do you sub out your little mechanics? I got to put mine back together.

Hey Legcub, the doors off my 61 should be arriving at your place anytime now. They're in need of extensive patch panels. Just keep track of your "little welder's" hours and bill me when she's done!

I showed my wife the videos of your daughter welding. She looked back at me and said "why do you complain so much about welding, she made it look pretty easy". HAHAHA
