Several months ago I submitted a couple posts, and received some potentially good feedback from bolters. My violent clutch chatter (even with new clutch disc and resurfaced flywheel) in first gear, but no other, was suggested to be a bad motor mount. I couldn't see how a motor mount could cause the problem, so I invested in a new pressure plate and another flywheel resurfacing-still had bad chatter. I purchased a pair of polyurethane rear motor mounts, and the clutch is smooth as silk. The give-away, as pointed out to me, is that if the clutch chatters in one direction, but not the other, the motor mount is the likely culprit. Hope this helps someone with similar problem.
My other frustration was a speedometer which wavered too much. There was a suggestion to lube it with vaseline, but I had already done so with a little white grease, to no good effect. I took the speedo head completely apart, being VERY careful with all the small parts. I cleaned the entire cup and spinning magnets with lacquer thinner, dried it thoroughly, and reassembled with a tiny bit of white grease only on the gears. Speedo is steady as a rock.
