Anyone have suggestions on auxillary fans or such for the inside of my truck?

DreamCruise is coming up which means if I make it above 5 mph for any length of time I will be doing great, so no counting on the CV windows or the floor cowl vents. Also I have no interest in installing A/C.

Thanks!

Fans to mount on the dash have been around for over 60 years. Big truck dealerships sell them.

jock- that was really something else... but not what I really need!

old dog- that is kind of what I was thinking, I am just not sure where or how to mount one and have it seemily 'fit with the truck'. Any chance of a better picture of the bracket>

Anyone else have suggestions on where to mount on of these aux fans? Thanks!!

watch the swap meets Denny, find a vintage vacuum operated one, won't remove the sweat just like the vacuum wipers don't remove the rain grin

A 12 volt will just run nice and slow.

I wanted an old six volt dash fan, but frankly, the prices on ebay have gone through the roof for a nice one, as the Bomba crowd likes them.

So, I got a trico vacuum fan. Clamps to the steering column, uses a bit of intake vac, and voila, cool air, and help defrosting that dang rear window.

http://users.erols.com/b-dwheeler/indextrico.html

Model T and A guys seem to have them.
Down with electrics! Up with vacuum powered everything!!!

I knew there'd be one on ebay - yes Fords in the 30's 40's all had'em, and having had a '37 myself, I found one for it, like this one, "patented 1937"

the robot knows I never check messages wink
reminds me I have 2 12v fans for the bus - and would like to find an air operated one, seeing it has air brakes

well denny you can always either rip a old heater apart and retro fit the 6 volt motor to a 12 volt model ,or chevy duty http://www.classicparts.com/download-cat.html has replacement 6 volt heater motors about 45.00 to build from if you don't have one you want to sacrifice .

Ok, since we are talking fans. When or rather what years were electric fans available, as opposed to the vacuum version. If they were available for the 47 to 54 trucks how scarce are the electric fans compared to the vacuum?

There is a similar discussion going over at the VCCA chat. Unless someone has some additional information it looks like the fans were listed as accessories from 1938 to 1948, I can't find any GM fan accessory beyond that.
I think the Trico vacuum fans were after market fans, I never saw one with a GM tag on them.

I'd start with some insulation on the floorboard, the top, the sides, the firewall, and everywhere else. That will make a big difference.

I work at a fleet garage..all of our older trucks have nice little chrome fans either mounted to the dash or in the top corner of the A piller where the sun visor bolts on, are even mounted where the rear view mirror goes. In my opinion they fit in nicely with older decor. They are also available in other finishes. Sits on a nice mount and has 2 swivel/ pivot points and a 2 speed, 3 position switch. i'll try to get some pics. We get them from Fleetpride, they have multiple stores in almost every state in the Union.

The 1947 Chevrolet Truck accessory "Fan, Defroster" was an electrical unit: "For all model trucks. Rubber fan blades; two-speed electric motor. Improves driver visibility. Aids safe driving."

But PSTONE, do they have them in 6volt versions????

Right Tim, those were offered from ’38-’48 according to the accessory brochure that Gene Schneider offered up. They were Casco fans, you can see the stamp on the rubber blade hub. I haven’t seen any GM accessory fans after that. I was thinking that the recirculating and fresh air heaters took their place from then on as far as GM was concerned. It was then left up to Western Auto and Warshawski’s and the like to supply the fans aftermarket.
Here’s that brochure scan:

you got it Denny, GM quit offering those fans because they were originally intended as defrost/defog aids and once they got heater defrosters worked out good enough the higher profit was in selling heaters .... remember that "standard" back then was no heater - and no A/C either, folks were tougher then grin
