One of my goals once my truck is street worthy is to build a vintage style camping trailer. Just wonderin' if anybody out there has this combo..... | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 769 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 769 | | | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 15 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 15 | Thanks for the link, but I was looking to see if any members here are into vintage campers and if so, pics of their set ups. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 15 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 15 | I have been looking hard at building one. Same here- especially since I'm in the trailer building trailer biz. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 493 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 493 | What size are you looking for? I am saving the back window from a parts cab for the rear window in what ever my wife tells me I want. I am thinking 16" or under would probably be the most I would want to haul with the 52". There are only 2 of us so I am toying with 13'. I sure would like to see somebody's photos of period trailers behind a Bolt. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 15 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 15 | I was thinking something along the lines of a 6x12 box. I would really like to build a gooseneck sleeper-maybe 7ft wide x 16ft overall with enough room for a queen size bed. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 493 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 493 | That's what I wanted to see. Thanks Bill. Tear drop or something you can stand in? My wife is pushing hard to buy an old one tall enough for her to stand up in to fix up. I am leaning towards building a teardrop. I have enough cedar left to do some nice trim. I am not sure about smell inside but I guess a good sealer would keep it to a minimum. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 1 Moderated | | Moderated Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 1 | Long time lurker, first time poster.
I've got a '60 Shasta (14') that I rebuilt and have been using. I recently bought a '60 Chevy that I am sloooly restoring. The idea is to have a matching rig. Listen to your wife. I built a 10' teardrop and my wife didn't spend a night in it. Too cumbersome. I don't have pictures as of yet but when I get some, I'll post theme.

I really like all the canned ham style trailers though. Currently, I have a tiny tent trailer, from '72. Its great, in that it weighs nothing, and you can't tell its there. Plus, I can tow it with my car. Plus, it was free. I like the idea of a teardrop, but it is nice to have somewhere to get out of the rain, bugs, etc. Anything that gets you out there though. I, like everyone else, would like a Bambi, but certainly cannot afford it!
Neilroy, if you go ahead and use that cedar inside, and are worried about the smell, which I doubt would be overpowering after a few months, you can finnish it with a couple coats of shellac. This will stop the smell. On top of the shellac, you will need to use a real varnish though, not a urethane, as there are problems with adhesion. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 |

It appears to be in good shape, and looks to be 12 to 14 feet long. The badge on the front has TABBERT and underneath that Badkissingen. Has anybody heard of this brand? I have done a couple of word searches, and did find a Badkissingen Baveria. It was home to Tabbert caravan manufacturing. That is about it. If finding parts is going to be as bad as finding info on it I will pass on it. Does anybody have any info on this camper? Thanks, Jimmie. | | |
