Hey guys,

Finally got to tear into the rear axle this past weekend. Some different questions are below.

1.) The first four are of the housing. Both spots line up. Was this done for clearance or is it not supposed to be there?

2.) The Last four are some random ones of the pitting. Is this pitting normal or does it need to be corrected?

3.) The service manual explains using some special tools for the tear down and instillation. What did you guys use for this?

Hy cshamel, could you tell us what the housing is out of? For me when the pictures are so close it's hard to tell what I'm looking at. I think those grooves in the housing are there to allow the side bearing caps to just slip into the housing but still support them, they were machined that way. As to the pitting, as long as it's not in bearing fitting areas or seal running surfaces, I would just clean things up.
