I installed my oil filter infront of the carb on the intake of my 1957 235 as that is where I thought it went. Looking at the 216s they have the oil filter behind the carb and the horn infront. My horn was mounted to the firewall. What is correct for these items on a 235?

The early filters went on the square center of the manifold where the intake and exhaust join. <CLICK> When the vacuum port got moved to that location the "normal" mounting location became forward of the carb.

agree on the filter behind, but it was an accessory item so might have been put anywhere the installer decided - never seen a TF with the horn on the firewall, all have been off the rad core support, single one behind and to the drivers side, or both sides w/ 2, that's what the louvers are for there, the horn mounts so the bell end is right behind them, as per the accessory manual

I have a copy of Fram instructions showing the recommended installation procedure. I thought it covered up through the later years but it only shows through '41, all of which are where my picture shows. It's interesting that consensus is in favor of aft of the carb on later models because I've never seen one mounted there, only fwd of the carb. I guess in the end wherever the owner want's to put it is "correct". ohwell

Maybe I'll leave the horn out and get one of those bumper stickers that says, "HORN BROKEN, WATCH FOR MIDDLE FINGER"

In 1953, Chevrolet was recommending that the automobile oil filter be installed forward from the carburetor.
