We've got this silly carburetor sitting here, trying to figure out the accelerator pump. It seems to do nothing, so I'm hoping someone knows of a manual, or just what is going on here.

The problem is, the rod that little piece of metal slides on is just sorta latched into a another piece of metal at the bottom of that hole. (sorry I didn't get a picture of that.. I will try tomorrow) It's hollow underneath the piece of metal it is attached to. There is no piston whatsoever, the whole rig there seems to do nothing but act as an emergency throttle return. Is there supposed to be a little rubber piece or something that we are missing? Hopefully someone can help a bit, because I'm clueless on the matter. ohwell

A Zenith pump has a metal plunger. They are notorious for sticking after years of sitting dry. Try soaking it with penetrant.

Are you sure it came off a 235? Zeniths were used on GMC engines.

Thanks cletis - it is a gmc engine. I honestly had no clue they didn't just use Chevy engines. So, is it a 235? (I thought I saw 236 as the engine for this model, thought just a typo/estimate type of thing) I think you know what's going on, so.. why then, does this metal plunger have a slot in it so that rod can slide in and lock into it? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

The rest of the carb, except for the throttle body, is in surprisingly good shape. The throttle body was rusted terribly, inside the bushings, and even the flat piece of metal that turns was rusted to the walls of the throttle body. (I know a good bit about carbs, but don't know the name of that part...)

Anyway, thanks for the help and thanks for any more. You guys are great!

Hey Sharn,
Look at the serial numbers cast into your block just above the starter.
The first three digits will be the displacement on your jimmy motor. ie 228, 248, 270, 302, 236 or 256

I think the flat piece in your carb that was rusted is your butterfly valve if I'm understanding correctly.
