Does anyone have a picture of the correct radiator shroud mounted to the correct radiator on a 58 chevy apache with a 283?

the TF trucks didn't have rad shrouds when they came w/ factory V8's - the rad support was mounted further back - just enuff [about 4"] to put the rad the proper distance from the fan [about1/2"] - if you're puttin a V8 in a 6cyl truck you just hafta find a shroud that'll do the job, and it IS necessary to avoid overheating at idle

look for something from 60's, 70's full size GM sedan, which can be adapted, or make yer own!

I guess I didnt make it clear that it is the factory V8 283 Matching number. Nothing had ever been changed But the radiator.I want to see what it should look like.The original shop manual I have dont show the engine compartment.Maybe I am missing an extention bracket that moves the radiator closer to the fan since there is no way that the core support could be moved back. 58 chevy apache short bed fleetside California truck.

I dont want it looking like it has the wrong parts in it since it is going to be original.There is a pic of the truck in the Gallery.I also have a shroud that said to be from a V8 58 its 2 inches thick but dont attach to my 56 date coded radiator.

hmmm ... my 58 came w/ a 6 so I haven't thought about it, just found a shroud to fit when I put a 283 in - my 57 V8 is like like it shows in the assembly manual - the lower core support mount brackets on a V8 frame are riveted on further back than the 6, and the top mounts of it go further back on the inner fenders, and there's a sheet metal piece top and bottom to fill the extra space between the rad and grill - the 58/9 still has the inner fenders shaped to suit that setup, but maybe they switched to using a shroud in 58? they did use shrouds in the 60's trucks

I'll ask a buddy who knows near everything about these ol trucks - but the rad itself is the same as any TF truck - I can take a pic of one for ya and post it later today

ok bad1, here's some pics - here's my 58 - the \'setback\' on the inner - is yours mounted in the same relation to that 'hump'? here\'s the shroud I rigged for it, note that even w/ 5" of shroud it still needs the fat spacer behind the fan to put it in the shroud, so a 2" one sure wouldn't work for a 6cyl truck - I'm pretty sure the rad in the 58 is original and the only ID on it is a welded style tag w/ "3135642", which sounds like a GM or Harrison number

this rad is the original from a 57 panel w/ a V8, note the H-55 means it's a model 55 rad made by Harrison who made most all 55-57[at least] rads - any rad I've seen in these trucks that had any ID on were Harrison 55's, although this spare one says G-55, but has the same part no.[?] as the V8 one, and different than the 58

all 4 rads I've currently got are identical configuration, and all that I've ever seen for any TF year are that same config - can't really recall off hand if I've ever run across a V8 58 or 9, but I can't see them designing a new rad for such limited use

Hy 1bad58, Yes indeed the 58-59 chev had a rad shroud, the V8 shroud p/n is 3744440, the h.d. rads shroud p/n is 3743680, actually there are five different shrouds listed depending on truck size and transmission. Unfortunately none of my reference material shows a picture of any of them. I do have a factory V8 58 3/4 ton which has what I assume is a factory shroud.

3B - is your rad mounted the same as the 6? like in the pic I had above? how deep is your shroud and where does it mount?

Hy red 58 I'll have to go and check but I don't think it's the same as my 57 V8 which has the setback spacer mentioned earlier.

Ok red58 sent me pics of his.I am using the barrel style.I used his pics and made one that looks like a factory shroud using my bead roller.It works perfect! Now since some of my customers saw it I have to make them shrouds.I just didnt want it to look cobbled but I dont think anyone could tell unless there was a real one next to the shroud I made.
