Hello everyone!
I used the search engine thoroughly to try and find the size and number oil filter for my 1953 GMC pickup....Another user gave me a Wix number but the number didnt match the system numbers....If anyone could please give me the number for a Fram, Purolator, Wix, etc. oil filter so i can get it back in there, I would be most appreciative!!

Thank you all,
53 GMC

I appreciate your help jfnar! However, I only saw where it dicussed the oil canisters but not the size oil filter with regard to Fram, Purolator, or Wix numbers for the actual oil filter. I have the Oil filter canister, not the oil filter however. A guy in advance auto told me his dad used to use toilet paper rolls with holes cut in it- needless to say i will not be doing that! haha Any help would be most appreciated!

Don't laugh at the toilet paper idea. It was a fairly common practice. Don't know about todays TP though. Find a real filter.
A lot of vendors carry them. Measure the inside of the cannister and go to the "links" page here on the 'Bolt. Pick a parts vendor and start looking. It shouldn't be hard to match one up. Good luck.

53GMC, not sure if you found a filter yet but here are some WIX filter numbers with description and dimensions. First number is height, second is ID and third is OD in inches. CLM=Cartridge Lube Metal Canister:

51143 GM Family of Cars/Trucks (58-67) CLM 5.777 3.594 1.281

I have been through this but the guy at Carquest came up with the right filter for me. You should measure the diameter of the inside tube, the diameter of the case and the height from where the bottom taper ends to the top. It is important the the filter inside tube seals are the exact size of your tube. You need the an OD of the filter that will fit in the case and a height that uses most of the can. Do a Google search for a filter site with cross references and look at the specs given. You can pic a filter from that.

My filter is a Carquest 85100.

Assuming we are talking the old filter in the external oil filter cannistersetup, try NAPA's Gold #1100
