Hi guys,
I'm detailing the hood emblem and fender spears on my 58 Apache. Does anyone know if the bowtie was painted inside? If so,what color. Also, the black background paint, what gloss would be right, and are the peaks of the ridges wiped off or is this just wear? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Stan S.

I've been watching your post for some responses but so far nothing. I believe the black paint was sort of a satin gloss, or at least that is what I have seen. As far as the color of the bowtie on the front I believe (but I'm not positive) that for 6 cylinder trucks it was painted black and for the V8's it was painted an orangy red. I'm hoping my response will cause someone to chime in with a more definite answer as I could be wrong. My front emblem currently has no paint on it so I wound be interested in finding out about this too.

58 the background is satin / semi-gloss black [no shiney ridges, that's wind wear]
the bowtie is always red [gloss, and not orangey] with the raised outline of it being exposed chrome - if it's the V8 one, the V is also left chrome

fender spears in 58 had the satin black behind the Chevrolet
