I just put together the bed on my 55.2 Chevy 3100 shortbox stepside this weekend. The new bedsides I purchased do not have the fender holes pre-drilled. Can one of you do me a big favor and provide me measurements for the two bolt holes in the following diagram? The diagram is looking at the inside of the passenger bed side. I figure this would be easier to measure. You can click on the image to enlarge it.

I figure if I have these two measurements, I can bolt the step boards on and get it perfect. Or do you guys have a better way? I have the factory manual but cannot find these measurements.

Thanks!
Michael

I have my rear fenders bolted to the step boards, milk crates holding up the rear. All I need to get my fenders on tonight is a measurement for one of those rear bolts. Even the one under the bed wood. Anyone? Maybe i will just eyeball it.

Hi Michael,

Here are measurements from my 55 3200. Don't know if it will help you since it is a longer box. Note, I hooked my tape on the inside of the tail gate notch.

Measurement #1 is 3-1/2 inches
#3 is 47-3/4 inches
#4 is 15-1/8
#6 is 9-1/4

Just curious, Michael. Who sells bedsides without fender holes and angle holes, and why? Seems like it makes a lot more work for the buyer.

Mar-Ktech,
No doubt! I've had these for 4 years, and I didn't even notice the lack of holes until now. Unfortunately, I can't remember who I bought them from. I didn't know about your products at the time or I would have called you!

Bolting up the step boards helped a lot and the #1 measurement Eileen gave me helps as well. Thanks Eileen! Or is it Peter?

There is a bolt hole at the very rear and at the bottom of the bed side, (it's not on the diagram I drew) if I knew how far up from the bottom lip of the bed side, I'd be golden. Maybe a half inch or so...

Hi Michael,

The measurement on my truck from the top of the bottom lip to the center of the lowest hole is 3/8 inch.

Eileen is the truck's name. Picture a leaky steering gearbox and a grease soaked front leaf spring...you probably know the rest of the story.

Peter,
Thanks for your help, I think that should get everything close enough.
By the way, John Deere Corn Head Grease might fix that leaky gearbox, at least until you do a complete frame off restoration and replace the seal!

Another fix for the leaky gear box is to use S.T.P. oil treatment. It takes for ever for the stuff to leak past worn and dry seals. Works great !!
