on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 388 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 388 | Just finished installing the 5 lug disk brk. pkg. on the drop axle of my '48 and was wondering if anyone else has done this? I'm not sure what to do with the turn stops that are mounted on the axle where the king pins go in and stop the wheels from turning in or out to far... The brake caliper bracket hits the stop so I took it off and put it on the other side of the axle and it didn't stop anything. The caliper housing stopped the wheel and I don't like that. Any ideas? Thanx, mike

Sounds like you mounted the caliper brackets to place the calipers behind the axle. You might try moving the calipers in front of the axle. I'm pretty sure that is how I did mine about seven years ago.
The steering stops work and the truck stops.

All you do is install the bearing adpt and the new tapered bearings and the new rotors and wala. Disc brakes on same drop axle. mike | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | Glad I was some help!
My kit pushed the wheels out a small amount, like maybe 1/2-inch or less on each side.
Running wider wheels and tires made much more difference.

are you fellas running stock axles or dropped axles w/disc brake kits? to me a 1/2" on a side seems like it may be a concern w/ a dropped axle. i will checkout your trucks pictures tomorrow see if i can learn more on these disc brake kits & width concern i have. thanks...

And yes, if you drop the truck width becomes a bigger issue. If you have the axle dropped you might have it narrowed at the same time. Here is a picture of mine. Disk brake Suburban with Cragars

Last I checked Classic Perfomance Products offered both versions. http://www.classicperform.com/

Mike when i installed a MPbrake kit disks on a 52 1/2 t with stock axel the stops hit the rotors. So they had to come off, As you know the adapters will only fit on the front of the axel. Seems be be ok.
