#55413 01/22/2006 7:10 AM | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 7 | i'm restoring a 51 chevy 3/4 ton, i put new floor pans in and now i'm working on the parking brake. can anyone tell me what holds the bar and rod that goes down through the floor in place? its the bar that the pedal hooks to then goes through the floor and a bracket bolts to the floor pan. it looks like a beaver was chewing on the end of mine. is there supposed to be a bushing or clip on the end? i cant find any info on it. | | |

Or are you talking about the ratchet release rod that attaches to the squeeze handle on the brake handle arm that releases the brake? Of course having asked all that I am assuming you have the 4 speed manual transmission (SM420). So isat right? | | |
#55415 01/23/2006 6:32 AM | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 7 | yea its a 4 speed, its the arm that is bolted under the floor,the rods coming from the back of the truck go on it. one side is bolted on and the other slides into a bracket that is bolted to the firewall. then the arm sticks up through the floor and the pedal bolts to it. the end of mine is chewed up and i'm wondering if there's supposed to be a bushing or clip to hold it in the firewall bracket | | |

(if you put new floor pans in you should have seen them) anyway these two cap head hold one end of the tube that is attached to the ebrake arm under the floor. the other end of the tube that has the rod which goes towards the rear to the cross-arm bar to pull both rear ebrake cables. once you undo the two capheads & the small 5/16'' brake rod the tube should then be able to be removed.

#55417 01/24/2006 5:37 PM | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 | The outboard end of the rod should go thru a hole in the rocker panel,thru another in the inner/outer cowl, and then thru the parking brake bracket. The end of your rod should have a hole in it for a cotter pin unless it's rotted away. A washer goes in there as well. I found a pic of that part before it came apart.
