| | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 48 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 48 | I am attempting a rear end swap on my 51 1/2 ton P/U I just got it out today and the upper shock mounting brackets on the frame look fine can I use these to install "modern shocks"? Should I be looking for spring perches for a 1953 to weld to my donner rear end or can I use more common newer spring perches. Where did you guys get your perches? (If you can't tell I am trying to find a cheaper alternative to the $140 rear end upgrade kit that chevyduty offers.)
Thanks for any info in advance, I couldn't be doing all this with out all of your advise. Zach

You can order shocks with either the 'eye' type end or the 'stud' type end. All you have to do is a bit of searchin in the catalog. I use Gabriels on my truck, they have a bayonet on one end and an eye on the other. They work great.

All I needed was comon 3" spring perches they were only $12.49!!! A far cry from $140 They also had a inclonometer for $10 to set the pinion angle, for those of you that don't know you want the pinion angle to be the same as the angle of the tranny output shaft.
