prior to me getting the truck, and I will probably get this backwards, the gneerator was replaced w/ a single wire alternator. so it appears nothing electrical on the firewall is being used??, or at least wired, there is power there.
I have a single wire from the back of the alternator, over to the started, a ignition w/ a wire out to the battery plus, and alot of bundled up wires doing nothing. so, my headlights work of I go direct to the battery for testing, once I've pulled out the knob in the cab. I do have 3 wires coming from the headlights.
my question is how do I wire the headlights? I assume the ground from headlights is still ground and the rest needs to be to power, but do I run through the switch some how?? and how?? i bought a electrical diagram, if anyone needs one let me know, but its for stock setups.

most H/L switches get power from a fused circuit, the H/L once turned on operates the parking, taillamps and Headlamps.

the light switch needs a hot wire the same as on the stock diagram, the headlights get their power from the switch, other than skipping the regulator, there is no difference in any of the wiring with an alternator, you'll have to hook the red wires together that were on the regulator [I think one goes to the horn relay, which gets power from the ammeter circuit]] - just make sure all the other circuits are the same as the diagram [which you didn't need to buy, it's in the shop manual and online at Kieths!]
