is there anyone who has an 80-up HEI 250ci dizzy laying around that they could get a measurement from ?

i need the length of the entire shaft, from the top all the way to the end/bottom of the gear

or from the reluctor ring down to the end/bottom of the gear

trying to see if i can convet an '84 229 chevy v-6 CCC HEI to a non CCC by using a 250 shaft and electrical parts

250 shaft is probably shorter though,

or does anyone know already?

compared to a 55-up chevy v-8 one

thanks for anything

Are you wanting to use it as computer controlled? If so, a mechanical HEI can be converted - I have a set of the instructions.

I'm like GMCPanel in that I have more questions that answers. What is a 229? I'm quessing it's one of the many engines GM has called a 3.8 and is that the same 229 used in the Buick Grand National? Didn't that engine have a carb prior to '84? That would have a mechanical advance HEI setup, wouldn't it?
What ever.
A '75 and newer 250 inline should have the same shaft length. From the underside of the plate on the top that the advance weights sits on, to the bottom of the tang that drives the oil pump is approxamatally 10 5/8". The top of the gear is 2 15/16" above the bottom of the tang. The shaft diameters are all .489" from the top, down to the bottom of the gear. Below that some are smaller and some have a flex joint.
