chevyman6671,
Without any changes to the rest of your engine (besides the intake, carb and headers), you can expect anywhere from a 10-15
true horsepower gain max. Expecting more from an otherwise stock 292? Forget it!
There are many ways to get more HP from a 292. All of them are invasive and can get expensive quickly.
The next least expensive (and most logical) way to bump up your power would be to change cams. Something with no more than 205-210 degrees of duration and less than .500 lift. Any more duration is useless as the gigantic head bolt boss in the middle of the intake starts intefering with airflow. And any larger lift (over .500) requires higher performance springs. And the low compression, heavy stock pistons won't produce the compression to make power fast.
There are other methods short of turbo or supercharging or NOS, but they are invasive, VERY expensive, and require somewhat advanced building and tuning skills - lump port head, custom pistons, lightened and balanced rotating assembly, etc.
Though I'm
far from an expert in engines, I built a mild mannered 292 a couple of years ago with the help of the guys here so I'll be glad to offer any help that I can.
