Not to question your post, but is what you say possible. What did the rig sound like moments before it wouldn't move anymore.
I could see maybe a broken axle. A ring and pinion catastrophe would have given you tons of clues way before it would have caused the rig not to move, and loud clues at that.

That particular morn, she decided to be loud and grinding the whole way in, Normally I would have parked and towed her home, but I cannot be late for work, being in the military. I managed to make it most of the way to a friends house before she quit. ans I have already opened up the rear end. Ewww nasty looking. Pile of shredded steel at the bottom. | | |
