Hi,
Anyone find a source for these?
It's a 1961 Chevy C30 (1 ton) Panel truck.
Need the lower ball joint.
Moog # 6015
TRW # 10149
If anyone has the GM part number, I'd like to have that too.
Thanks.
Pete (who thought 60-66 Chevy trucks were all the same----I was wrong!!)

Funny, it looks innocent enough...........

NAPA should have them or at least get them.

Hi,
NAPA doesn't stock them, GM, TRW, and MOOG don't make them.
Closest I've come is Rare Parts (http://www.rareparts.com/products/)
$250 each + $50 core charge.

Anyone have any alternatives to swapping the crossmember?
Not sure you can even do that to a 60-62 C30, anyone know?
I'll have to read through the archives again.

I can't help on the parts.

I've seen the IFS on a '61 1-ton and it looked very similiar to the later coil spring type. I was curious how different they are so looked it over pretty good, but did not measure it at all. It has since been scrapped.

I've seen at least one thread where someone said they have swapped the torsion bar IFS for a coil spring one, but I haven't done it.

At this very moment I have a '72 C20 IFS on a workbench in my shop. I'll try to measure anything you describe on it. It may be back under the truck soon, so this could be a limited time offer...

It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...

Yes you can swap the whole crossmember from a later coil spring truck. You will need to drill two holes for the idler arm if you go to a 73 up front end. Im shure that you could do the swap much cheaper than what those ball joints would be. OldWolf

Old Wolf,
Sounds good.
But,
I thought I had seen in the archives that the 60-62 frames were narrower.
Don't know. Measure mine and hit the junk yard I guess.

Thanks

I myself have installed a 73 crossmember disk brakes the whole shooting match on a 61 chev 1/2. The frames are different in that the torsion bar frames are boxed and have a X member. Also they are different at the rear bumper. but the complete cabs beds and front sheetmetal will all interchange. between 60 and 66 models. the 63 up bumpers wont fit the earlier models. OldWolf

OldWolf,
That's encouraging.
I take it you used a 1/2 ton crossmember?
Thanks

Don't want to hijack your thread but I also have a similar problem and have a 1962 c10 1/2 ton and I was wondering if I could take the front end out of a 78 suburban and put into my 62 so my cross member would have the motor mounts already in them and also for the breaks to be upgraded so does anyone know if this can be done?

Thanks and again sorry to hijack your thread.....

Yes it will easily work. like i stated earlier you have to drill two holes for the front idler. also you should get a purporiong valve and the dual master cyl and powerbrake booster. Although the latter is not absoultly necssairy if you have strong leg muscles! OldWolf
