The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts rear brake adjustment C-60

Do the adjusters all turn the same way? And is there a special tool to turn them? Is there somewhere I can go to see a picture of the rear brakes. I tried to google them but did not find anything. Also, I have partial power steering to the left and no assist when turning right, I have replaced the p/s pump with a known good one. This did not help.

Hy wiltrek, please remember to tell us what year of truck you're asking about, as to the steering problem, if you have assist in one direction, but not in the other direction, then the pump is probably okay. The direction control spool valve is probably only moving in one direction, is this an integral box system, or a ram assist system?

Sorry, this is a 66 C-60 and it has a ram on the tie rod.

Hy wiltrek, if your truck has Wagner FR-3 rear brakes, there will be two slots in each backing plate, one on the upper forward side, and one on the rear lower side. Adjust upper forward shoe by inserting the adjustment tool through the backing plate and engaging the adjusting wheel, now move the outbord end of the tool down towards the axle tube to decrease the clearance between the brake shoe and drum, do this until a light drag is felt while turning the drum, then turn the adjusting wheel four clicks in the opposite direction for running clearance. Now proceed to rear lower adjuster, the procedure is the same, hope that helps.
