Are the later gearboxes synchronized, or are they the same crash box as  the 41. Just wondering as I'm not getting any better with the crash box and might swap it out if it's not a major job. Thanks D

The 4-speed transmission became a synchro-mesh, helical gear transmission in 1948.

The redesigned synchronized transmission case was wider, higher, and longer than the earlier 4-speed.

I think the the clutch housing from the later one will fit the engine, but that causes starter linkage problems. The change was done routinely 50 to 60 years ago, but then we had the luxury of having salvage yards full of stuff to make the change. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 100 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 100 | Thanks for the info.
