Are the later gearboxes synchronized, or are they the same crash box as  the 41. Just wondering as I'm not getting any better with the crash box and might swap it out if it's not a major job. Thanks D

The 4-speed transmission became a synchro-mesh, helical gear transmission in 1948.

The redesigned synchronized transmission case was wider, higher, and longer than the earlier 4-speed.

I think the the clutch housing from the later one will fit the engine, but that causes starter linkage problems.
