on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 122 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 122 | Need some help and guidance here, as my 1957 3100 truck is sitting on jack stands at a buddy's house right now since the conversion of to front 6 bolt disc brakes seems to have hit a snag...
I have purchased the brakets from Buffalo and assume that the calipers mount to the rear of center of the wheel? There are not any real instructions, but it looks like this will place the caliper in a better cross car position than having them forward. Undfortunately this is not the big issue...
The big issue is that the calipers with pads will not fit over the rotors, all of which from NAPA are supposedly for a 1977 K5 Blazer. For whatever reason the rotors are mic'd at about 1.310" and the opening in the pads at full compression is 1.10", Is it possible I have the wrong parts? I hope I do not have the wrong year of parts.... we already mounted the hubs to these rotors.
Thoughts?

Cannot measure the caliper as the tires are on. The loaded caliper should allow about .0625 to the rotor. The caliper piston will collapse enough so that the pads are contacting the caliper body. Here are some pictures of my conversion in my build pictures.

Thanks for the info on your rotors and the links to the photos, which confirm that the caliper is mounted rear of the center of wheel.
It seems that NAPA has a problem with their on-line parts catalog, as all the components should fit together but after going through a few boxes of them it was obvious they wouldn't. Luckily this used to be an independant parts store and they were able to look it up in the books, and had to pull what NAPA thinks is the wrong part [2WD caliper] and it allows the pads to go over the rotor. Now I have to hope the offset is correct.
So much for my panic last night, but I appreciate the learning.... | | |
