i have a short block in need of a head. the block is a hydrolic lifter, powerglide, side mount, #60 oil preasure with the # f54y behind the distributor.

what year is this block and how do i track down the right head?

Your block is a 1954. The best head to use is the 3836848 casting number head that first appeared in 1956 but became the replacement head for all the 18-bolt-head inline 6's from the '53 Corvette right up through '62.
