I'm trying to drop the crank but the dang oil pump won't come out. I can barely even get a wrench up to the bolt and even when I can it just rounds it when I try to turn it. I tried vise grips, and even that couldn't get it out. I even tried heating it some and nothing.
Is there some trick I'm missing? I'm at wits end with this thing.

I only saw a bolt threading into the pump, is there a nut butting up against the pump?

It will bottom out, then break loose the bolt from oil pump retainer. It's real fun when engine is stuck. I going do two GMC 302s that are locked up today.
