Would it be worth it, would it bolt up the same and could I still use my 3speed transmission. Any big issue's that i might come across, I'm new to all this stuff. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 230 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 230 | i don't know about the trans but the engine Mount's are different they are on the side instead of the front .you would have to build a set of Mount's and cross member .if you have the complete mounts from the truck that the 292 was in ,use 1/2x 3 flat stock to span the frame and set the original Mount's on it and bolt them on .worked good on my 61 gmc . | | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 | The 292 would be a super engine to go with, bolts up to modern gm tranys (same as V8) and bellhousings, has tons of torque, lots of accessory manifolds. I've been thinking about building one for my 53. And there is a great book on building these, "Chevrolet Inline Six-Cyliner, Power Manuel" by Leo Santucci. Also Check out Langdon's Stovebolt website for more info and www.inliners.org

The 292 uses the same bellhousing as the V8. You'll need a bellhousing from a '55-'72 V8 or '63-'72 6 cylinder. The front mounts will have to added as well. There are kits available to mount a V8 on th side mounts to the frame (not the crossmember style) that could be adapted to this fitment. You should be able to use your existing trans just fine.

You may want to stay away from those years for your particular engine swap. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | That is correct, exept for 4x4 models, which still used the mechanical clutch.
