One of the side cover bolts was replace with a bolt that had a stud coming out of the head. That's where I'm going to mount mine on a aluminum plate. Sorry no pics.

The center two of the six bolts that hold the two side covers on. The front bolt of the rear cover and the rear bolt of the front cover. The regular bolts are a flanged bolt with a seal under the shoulder. These two bolts for the coil are the same with a threaded stud above the hex. A nut(2) holds the coil on and the hex part spaces the coil out from the covers.
The internal coil type HEI has tree wires from the coil to the dist body. One of those wires is a ground wire for the coil, because as you can see, the cap would insulate it from ground. The external coil type HEI has only two wires from the coil to the dist, because the coil and the dist, share a common engine ground. If the coil is on the fender, you need to check and make sure you have a very good fender to engine ground.

I would like to add that if the seals are leaking and they likely are, you can put a special washer on them. I found an aluminum washer with rubber molded to it on one side. They were at OSH(Orchard Supply Hardware) in the hardware bins where they keep odd fasteners, bushings, pins, etc.

Sorry. There has to be a name for this type of fastener, but I'll be danged if I know what it is. Same as the main bearing bolt that supports the oil pickup tube.

Ya there is probably a name for it, have to check with GM dealer. I worked in the defense industry and the library had a microfiche sorta thing with all the mil stds in it, neat, save my butt a few times. I just checked the Hillco catalog and they don't have it.
