I have my HEI from my 230 that I will be putting back on the original 250 motor. I can't remember the install process from the HEI when I originally got it. Obviously, I won't have a reference point off the old rotor , as the dist. was removed before going to the builder.
I remember the wiring part, but is there other info. I should be aware of?
Also seems to me that it was recommended with these distributors to advance my timing by 15 degress or so.

I have really tried to understand your question.
Do you know the procedure for finding TDC and installing your HEI so it will be timed properly to start the engine. Is this the info you need?

I can find TDC and know to point the rotor toward the place where the number one plug wire will be. For some reason I thought there was something different about the HEI than the old point style. In particular, I thought the timing itself was much more advanced than with the original point style.

If you know all those things, you know all there is to know. I did read somewhere that the HEI distributors had a different advance curve. I thought there were different vacuum units which are marked with a code indicating degrees of advance at full vacuum...whatever.
You have it well under control, just don't drink your namesake before doing this task!
