I need to know where to find the block #'s for a 235 six a 54,55 to be exact. Feel stupid asking can't seem to find it in some of the articles. Thanks

The casting numbers on this page were gleaned from a variety of places on the Internet and from GM documents. There are mistakes and conflicting information on the web and in GM documents (so, there are mistakes on the webpage at the above link).

It is best to look at block and head casting numbers, block and head casting dates, and the block/engine serial number to confirm an identification of an engine.

Try Cars and Parts chevy truck ID numbers Catalog put out by Cars and Parts Magazine , it has no's from 1946 to 1972 Chevy pick ups , Suburbans , and El Camino , covers alot of ground and will help You ID engines and other parts and is not expensive .

The Cars & Parts catalog is quite useful. It has Vehicle ID plate information, too. The engine serial number (engine ID) information in the catalog only includes light truck information (as described by Pete). The Car & Parts catalog does not include information on casting codes and casting dates.

On the right side column of the link I gave are white-text links to GM Restoration Pack Manuals' serial number ID pages for various years. These documents include serial numbers for various parts for all vehicles - unfortunately, some years are missing (thank you once again, Keith Hardy).
