I'm placing my motor back into my 53 chev and and hooking up my shift linkage, here's were the problem begins. I installed a Fenton dual intake and now see that the shifter box linkage hits the intake has anyone else come across this problem and maybe has a solution for me? Does the linkage have to be modified? Thanks in advance

Interference is a given in column shift trucks. You might be able to simply shorten the arms for clearance but be aware that will alter the throw of the shift arm inside the cab. I cut mine and tacked in flatbar extensions to reach under the intake but it took several attempts before I found an arm geometry that worked to my satisfaction and then I welded them solid. Here's a pic:

Jason,

The 3-speed shifter rods/arrangement is slightly different in my 1954 truck in comparison to earlier years. Last summer, I put in a Fenton dual intake and, at first, one of the shifter rods rubbed against the intake. After adjusting the rods, the rod no longer rubs.

Thanks Guys I'm going to modify them! I just wasn't sure if I needed change the design or simply hack off the end and re-drill. I sure am glad I can ask somebody these questions.

In order to keep the shifter throw length from getting too long, you'll need to re-drill the hole at the other end of the linkage as well. You don't have to cut the other arm shorter though. Just move the hole so that the distance from the pivot point is proportional.

regards,
Leon
