I have the service manual for the 1954 truck and I was using it while rebuilding the engine. The line that says to "Install camshaft thrust plate to block screws and tighten them securely" doesn't say how much torque to use. After installing my cam, it spun freely in the bearings, but once I tightened the screws down on the thrust plate, it gets very difficult to turn the camshaft and there sounds like some metal drag coming from between the thrust plate and camshaft. Is this acceptable? This is my first time rebuilding an engine and this is pretty much my first step in the process since getting the parts back from the machine shop. No the cam should not get hard to turn after You install the plate there is a spec for setting the plate
There are shop manuals on line You could look thru I don't where to find them but somone here will give You the info.
