I think I would look for a leaf spring rear with the gears you want, doing this will give spring plates and possibly ubolts. All the other stuff shock mounts drive shaft and so on you can fab up yourself. | | |
#54228 01/01/2006 2:26 PM | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 388 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 388 | Jay, I just finished grinding and removing all brackets from my 84 cutlass rearend and the reason I took the rear is because of the price and the mileage was only 80,000 (less than my '48 has on it)I also purchased my leafspring kit , wich included the shock mount brackets and spring perches to weld on in the right location (center of the wheel well)that tork tube rearends folks have to contend with, brought from:www.truckandcarshop.com funny thing is that the kit came from www.cpp , but i bought it cheeper from tha truck shop! ? go figure. Good luck and make sure u check your pinion angle before you weld. | | |

You still have to move the spring perches on the modern rearend and weld them to the correct area to match the original spring mounting spots. | | |

I used a similar rear under my '55 1st. I cut the hardware off the original rear and put them on the new rear. If I had it to do again I'd buy one of the kits.
You might find something a little cheaper, but I doubt you'll save much without doing a lot of the work.
