The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Panels 'N Burbs 58 Panel

I've had my eye on this one for a number of years. It's up for sale now and I'm thinking of picking it up. Body appears straight from the road, but it's back a ways, paint looks decent, not show quality. I know it's been sitting outside for at least 5 years in a rust-prone area. I've always wanted a panel, never could justify it, but the wifey says all I have to do is find room to keep it.

It currenly has no engine or trans, had evidently been converted to 350/350 combo at some point in the past. Owner has second frame with Camaro clip installed. My desires are more stock, but I will go look to see how much actual hacking has been done. I believe it has straight axle under it now.

Where should I look for rust? I know where to look on TF trucks in general, but panels are unknown to me. If it is more than I want to deal with (won't take much) I'll certainly pass it on for others.

the quarters - all along the bottom from behind the doors to the rear wheel wells and right behind the wheel wells - the pinch welded inner and outer panels there collect the damp flakey stuff and invariably rot, especially in a wet climate - also look under the rear at the attachment points of the panel that makes up the rear door sill .... the inside rail right behind the rain gutter may reveal roof rot too

Was supposed to look at it last weekend, owner flaked out on me. Just got an email saying he would be home this weekend. I still want it, but don't know if I can get away this weekend. I'll keep everybody posted as to what happens.

I finally spoke with the owner today. It's been 3 1/2 weeks of hit and miss emails and phone messages. He says he has too many projects, or his wife does, but he doesn't soundreal interested in letting it go. I'm going to pass on it for now due to space constraints, I have no more room myself, but still know where it is for now. I did offer him help and guidance if needed. It sounds as though he's not all that familiar with these old trucks.
