I have just finished with the install of a Borg Warner T5, 5 speed tranny and swapped out the 4.56 third member with a 4.11 pumpkin from a 1965 chev 3/4 ton, all set up in my 1946 Chevy 3/4 ton. Aside from the vibration, or maybe some noise, the set up is more than I expected. I wanted to get 60-65 MPH for highway use , drove it last night using a hend held GPS to monitor my speed. I back off when I reached 70.1 MPH, don't have a tac yet but I wasn't fully cranked out, I'ld guess somewhere around 3 - 3.5 grand. Those old heavy , hard to stop , trucks were not intendedto go that fast. I'm pushing this rig with a 261 inline 6. If anyone is considering making one or both of these changes I'll testify that it really makes a difference. I've more than put life back in this old truck, its a new truck!!!

they do make a difference, my 52 had a 235 with the s-10 five speed and blazer rear end.. I was running a 2:73 rear ratio..

used it a lot on the hi-way.......it would go as fast as I wanted, 72 was normal on road... had it to 80 a lot but always backed off..

these trucks have to be in good shape to run like that on the open road and mine was... I miss that old truck

50 years ago I put overdrives with a .70 OD in 3/4 tons and thy were fun to drive. I am in the process of putting a 302 in a 50 GMC 3/4 ton like I drove in high school. I am having serious reservations about an overdrive. There is too much traffic these days to be going something that has such a long stopping distance. 50 years ago the big danger was going around a corner too fast and turning over.
