Hi you guys. This is the heater in my 52 half-ton. Can you tell me if this is the factory heater or is it something put in later? The emblem is missing, the side label says it is a Harrison. The second picture shows the controls mounted just to the right of the steering column below the dash. The wiring is a MESS...The vent looks to have a factory delete panel. I have no idea if this heater works yet. If it's dead, would I be better off to replace it with a fresh-air heater? Thanks Pat

That is a Heater and Defroster, De Luxe made by Harrison for Chevrolet trucks. It was a GM accessory in 1947 but it does not show up in the 1949 or later Truck Data Book.

The description states there were multiple switches, presumably one for the heater motor and one for the defroster motor (a two-motor, two-fan heater). There is no picture of the controls/switches in the Truck Data Book - if you post a clearer picture, we can offer opinions about the switches looking like the switches on the more common recirculating heater/defroster or the air-flow heater/defroster.

That is a relatively rare heater and if it works, I'd suggest keeping/using it. If anyone asks, tell them that a heater was an accessory and was dealer installed. The dealer that originally sold your truck happened to have this older heater in stock (this could be correct).

Good luck finding that chrome/stainless (?) Chevrolet heater ID plate.

Tim, I have added some clearer pics of the controls both front and back. The left hand knob is a pull-out, one position on/off. The right seems to have 3 positions right, center, left.
What have i got here? Again, thanks for the help (I'm kicking myself, saw one just like this with the emblem a week ago on e-bay and missed it by and inch...it went for $10 bucks GRRRRR)

The photos are now very clear. I have no idea what was used originally but maybe someone with that heater will post a reply.

I'd be GRRRRing too - just keep looking.
