I have a 54 truck radio The capacitor had shorted to ground.I have been getting some great help from Fred on this site. I found by carefully taking a dremel tool cutting the can open. I cut the bottom completely off pulled the wires thru and the cap was right on top .5MFD x 100v. I did cut down the sides to take the transformer out of the can replaced the cap put the transformer back in the can and soldered the can back together reattached the wires and used heat shrink to cover the solder points. You can check the primary and secondary for shorts by referring to the Chevrolet Radio Service manual. Fred thought I should share this, it may save a few transformers.
