My truck has a home built (built by the original owner) flatbed. He really did a nice job with rough cut chestnut, but some of it is rotting. I want to replace the wood, but salvage the hardware, and copy what I can't save. I plan to reduce the size slightly, and make some subtle changes. I only know a little about rough cut lumber. Any ideas on where and how to buy it? What's a good replacement for the chestnut? Were there plans available back then or did he build this from his own design?

I'd go to these guys and build a metal frame. This way you would have a "factory" style looking bed. Along with that you would have better protection from damage if you bump up against something. After building the frame, just put any well protected type of wood you want into the frame. thumbs_up

Does anyone know of any other suppliers of bed parts? I'm probably going the same route. Kampco looks like they have everything needed although I would like to check out any other suppliers if they are out there.
