Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 323 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2005 Posts: 323 | This has probably been answered here before, but can anyone recommend a HEI distributor model to upgrade the stock V8 in a task force truck 55-59? I see a few in the Summit catalog but don't know the best one for limited space. Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 549 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 549 | I've done it. You can get about any Distributor for a small block. I got mine out of an old van and rebuilt it. The firewall requires a bit of remodeling. Here's a link

I use the stock dist. with a Crane conversion kit from Summit. It is simple to install. You can get the prerformance coil but I Just use the stock coil. Crane is out of business now so I don't know if they are still available. Trifive, I would sure like to buy your 56 in the Trucks for sale part but it's just too far. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | Correction. That Crane kit won't fit that dist. It fits the 57 up dist with the window in the cap. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. I don't want to alter my firewall. That 56 would make for a good roadtrip back to your place. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 946 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 946 | Just went through this and have an answer for you. I bought an Accel 52000 series breakerless ignition distributor and an Accel 8140 coil for it. The cap that came with mine had male connectors (it was also very flimsy) so I ordered their female cap and rotor kit (ACC-8124 black) along with black spiral wires ACC-5042K from Summitracing.com (you cannot use solid core wires). It now clears the firewall nicely and looks like the original point style distributor. I ran into a problem with hooking it up though. If you want to use the three prong connector you will also need to order a distributor wire lead 110-41331 from Jegs. You will need to call them and they have to order it from Accel. Now for the disclaimer: I have not received the distributor lead wire yet, therefore I have not started the engine up to verify that everything works. It took me a long time and many calls to gather all these parts. I hope this helps you.
