Here's part 1 of this story. And now the flood of questions begin:

I finally got around to getting the carb off and have the top off of the float bowl. I got the accelerator pump piston out and looked at the gasket around it, and it has wear lines completely up one half of it, and the other half has wear lines up only half of the rubber. It also felt rather loose in the well that it sits in compared to the new accel. pump that was in the rebuild kit.

I've already hooked up the new pump, and I'm wondering if I should take out the pump discharge spring and ball, and replace them too while I have it apart?

Plus, if I ought to replace the spring and ball, how do I get the little "T" shaped piece out, just tug on it with a pair of needle nose pliers? It seemed like it was in there pretty darn tight when I tried taking it out.

I'm also going to check the float settings before I put it back together. How much side to side clearance do the floats have? I noticed that there is a little bit of wear on the inside of one of the floats that had a matching spot on the bowl side of the throat. I'm guessing that I can bend it out 1/16" or so, just enough to get it to clear?

I'll post the pictures that I have in a little bit once I get them off of my camera.

Thanks

I do a lot of them & never pull the check ball out. Pour a little gas in the bowl & try it. If it works it's fine. The float pontoons ought to be in the middle so they dont rub the carb body.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Thanks Wrenchbender, I'll go ahead and button it up then after checking it the new pump plunger.

Here are the pictures of the old one:
Pump 1
Pump 2

Edit: I tried it with some gas, and put my finger over the hole with the ball and spring so that it would spray into the throat and it worked perfectly. I'll put it back on the truck this Thursday and I'll let you all know how she fires up.

I got the carb back on today and I had to jump the truck off with my car (battery had run down) but she fired right up on the second try. Just to test it out after it warmed up, I hauled home 2000 lbs. of gravel, and it couldn't work better.

Thanks for your help with fixing it.
