Is there a step by step method I can use to find what's wrong (coil, distributor...). I have battery to starter and battery to positive coil. Should it be starter to coil? Do I need to ground coil. Could coil be bad? It's a rebuilt engine so everything is new. Please help!!!

This is a fresh rebuild, so I only have wires running from the battery to the starter and the side of the starter to the coil. Should I run anymore wire? Should I ground the battery in a particular location? Could I have a bad coil? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

or i did until i put an hei in my 46 now i always have spark.
