slowgo61,

The stock engine with clutch is about 585 lbs. The previous post indicates the dt466 weighs in at around 1480 lbs. This would be a massive engineering undertaking...did you get a free engine you need to use somewhere? Good luck and keep us updated.

I am in the process of putting a Detroit Diesel 4-53T in a 48 2 ton. I have seen a few DT466 engines, and think you will have a very hard time getting it to physically fit in the sheet metal. My 4-53T will be about as tight a squeeze as can be done without much, or any, body work.
But like they say, nothing is impossible, just throw enough money at it..
Now think about this, can you unscramble an egg? Perhaps some things are impossible?...

Just mount it on a pallet and hoist into the bed, done,

GMC used the smaller Detroits in big trucks during the AD years, but they also had some seriously larger front sheet metal.

I have done several diesel conversions i.e. chev 6.2l into dodge ram and IH 6.9 into 75 ford.TheDT466 is a great engine but physically too large to fit into anything much smaller than a 3 ton.Too long, tall, heavy, and needs a lot of cooling capacity and large tranny to take the torque.I measured it up once.To put it into a smaller truck would require very extensive surgery to sheet metal.Would be fun though.
