I have one of those emergency brakes without cables, its a pull type w/ a pistol grip and a release on it. all mechanicals look good and brake tightens up at end of trans, but it doesnt stay tight. it appears the little metal piece clicks along on the saw like metal piece, but doesnt catch. so you pull it back and it just falls forward. it should click tight and pull the grip piece to release. anyone got any ideas?

There is a little spring in it that pulls the rachet down. If thats OK the teeth may be stripped.

I do not have a little spring anywhere..... where does it go? makes sense a spring would push down on the ratcheting part. teeth are perfect.

Its been a long time since ive been into one of them. The specialty stores have the rathet cam. They might have the spring too. Do you have some catalogs?

so anyone else knows who might go through it, the handle has a spring in it that forces down the tooth to hit the teeth to stay in emergency brake used position. my handle didnt have the spring.
