Hi. I'm brand new to this forum. I welcome all and any opinions that you guys may have as to the value of a truck I have. It's a 1964 Chevy C20 3/4 ton- ORIGINAL OWNER, California truck with original California black license plates, 2020k miles, original inline 6 cyl. 292 (rebuilt), 3 on the tree, starts right up and runs well, repainted a number of years ago and paint is in good shape, very minor surface rust in a few places and a few scratches, body is very, very straight- no dents. Interior of cab is in good shape but seat will need reupholstering. Less than one week after this truck was purchased in 1964 a cabover camper was placed on the back and is still there today. The camper is in good shape with refrigerator, two burner propane stove, lots of cabinets, a table, and it sleeps 4. The original wood of the bed is under the camper. The only thing that needs attention is that the truck has to be at a dead stop before it will shift into 1st gear (tranny problem?), and it probably needs a new emergency brake cable. Rims are rusty and tires are fair but would need replacing fairly soon. Truck has three gas tanks. I'd attach a photo if I knew how.....any tips? Let me know if you need more info to give me a guess at how much this truck might be worth. Low NADA guide says $6800...is that reasonable? Also, my other big question is: DOES HAVING THE CAMPER ON THE BACK DE-VALUE THE TRUCK OR ADD TO ITS VALUE? Should I seperate them? Thanks in advance for your comments.

I bought almost the exact same setup, except mine is a 63 with granny four and 116k miles when I got it. The 292 had been rebuilt and had 2ok on it. My camper had an ice box and 3 burner stove, monster camper, about a 10 footer. The camper will de-value the truck unless you can find someone that wants a camper too. The newer campers have showers. I paid $2300 for mine in the S.F. bay area, location will make a difference in value as well.

That 292 is an awesome motor. The bottom end torque of a 350.

No problems with the trans. The SM420, whcih was used from '47-'67, uses a sliding gear for fist and reverse, and that gear is not syncronized. Only 2-3-4 is syncro on that trans. For the most part, you shouldn't need 1rst for normal everyday driving, as it is very low, 7.05:1. 2nd will be fine for normal driving.
Attaching pix isn't too hard. You'll need to host them at a picture hosting site, such as Webshots or Photobucket. Both are free to use. Then the pic can be posted in by copying and pasting. Or alternatively, you can paste them in using the full reply option, which makes for neater post.

Hi and welcome Sounds like your interested in selling it, is that correct? I can't see why having a camper on the back would de-value the truck, don't like it take it off but if the camper was bout new for the truck back then I would think it to be a bonus if it's in good shape. That would be a killer way to go old school camping.

What's it worth guessing?? I don't mean to sound rude, don't take it that way but you asked for input. with out seeing pictures and lots of them, under, over, inside and out it's impossible to guess an answer. Over all any car/truck is only worth what some body will pay for it and there are alot of cars/trucks that have been for sale for a ridiculus amount of time because the owner/s get to cout up in the "Bury It Jacksone" thinking.

It was worth what you paid for it, rite? I hope you got a great deal, it sounds like a nice combo. Take pics and start a Photo Bucket, Photki, etc acount, there free to set up and post a link. I would like to see this, hope you get out of it what you want.

Thank you to everyone who kindly responded to my post about the 64 Chevy C20. You all gave great info. I will attempt to upload pictures on Photo Bucket. The whole reason behind asking about the truck's value is because it is owned by a very elderly couple who are friends of mine. They have approached me to help them sell it and honestly, I don't know much about these trucks although I have long admired them. I just want to do right by them, ask the right/fair price, etc. I've been doing some research and the prices seem to vary so widely it's a bit confusing. The NADA guide seems to be indicate a price for low retail ($6800) that trucks in near perfect condition would be lucky to see....am I right on that? Anyway, hopefully I'll get pics on here soon and hope to receive more comments at that time. Thanks again.

6800 seems a bit steep for what you are describing. Do you want the truck? Offer them 2500 to 3500 for it. It probably won't bring more than 5 or 5500 in this economy under any circumstances. These are WAGS so take them in that vein. Without pix you can't expect someone to bid, much less place a value. Personally, I like the camper option. It protected the bed from the start. For a hunter or loner, this pickup would be ideal to get up into National park areas too small for the big class A units so prevalent lately. An outdoor shower could be upfitted to the camper pretty easily. But you be pretty much alone in some prime country with a rig like that. It would be a good dedicated rig for someone. Good luck.

what's a WAG?? And by the way, I don't even know why these trucks are called Stovebolts! Are you all laughing at me right about now?

No, nobody's laughing. We were all new at one point in time. A WAG is shorthand for Wild A#% Guess. As for learning about the Stovebolt moniker, go to the FAQ page and look at the very first part. It explains what Stovebolt refers to and that fact that we use it very loosely around here.

Welcome Piper44 My two cents are (with out seeing a picture) that 6800 is a little high, but if it is in showroom condition may not be so bad. Have you priced new and used cabover campers. My veiw is the camper adds to the truck. It is of the same vintage wich is cool, it has only been used by one owner. This campers are real easy to remove with the proper jacks. My price with out seeing would be 2500 to 5000, but thats jsut my view. Some place to sell the truck would be here of coures, ebay, and craigslist. Hope that helps. Cant wait to see the pics as i have 4 of these style of trucks one is my daily driver.
