I recently acquired a GM (Pontiac) 200ci flathead inline six out of a 26 to early 30s car or truck. The donor vehicle is pretty well gone but the engine is salvageable. It had been sitting in a field for 50-odd years and there seems to be a lack of parts for this thing. Any tips on building this thing since this is my first flathead and where I can find parts would be greatly appreciated. Also, where I could find any books, especially wiring diagrams, or other literature would be helpful. Thanks

GMC used that engine off and on during the thirties. Kantor may have parts and Northwestern Auto Parts may have parts. Egge Machine in CA may have parts in stock or can make them, not cheaply though.

I checked around at some of the chain parts stores and they didn't have anything. I have yet to check at the mom&pop parts stores to see what they have.

In addition: what kind of carb did this thing use? My great-grandfather took it off when he parked it in the late 50's and it is long-since gone. Thanks for any help ya'll have.

just curious,since the cars gone what are your plans for the engine once its rebuilt?

Not really sure, could be a Carter or a Zenith.

My plan is to build a rat rod out of a late 20's or early 30's Chevy. I thought that it would be neat to use an unusual engine in it to make it unique. But I'm 18 and unemployed, so it is going to take several years to complete this project.

Property behind me is being cleared to build a new house. In the process they have dragged an old Pontiac out of the woods.

It has a flat head six and appears to have a complete driveline. The body is gone and the frame is trashed. I've learned enough of the neighborhood's history to know its only been out there 40 years.

I don't own it and can't borrow any parts off it. If it is still there Saturday I might be able to shoot some pictures of it.

This Pontiac actually belanged to my Great-grandfather. When he bought it in the 40's, it had already been cut down to what is called a short-dog tractor. My grandmaw said that is was like a big go-kart or dune buggy because when it ran, it was a rolling chassis, a wood plank for a seat, and a cowl to hold the steering column up. Now, all thats left is the chassis and drive train that hasn't moved in 50 years.

A few last questions: Where are the casting numbers located and what are the specs on this engine? Inliners.org hasn't been much help since this engine is almost too old for them. Thanks, Drew
