First problem solved. Ive edited this post for questions about the rear main seal. See my last post.

Popping thru the carb could be timing , it could also be intake valve lash too close.

#1 is front of engine

I set my plugs at 35 thou. Others may have a different idea on that.

Still having issues. Should i try putting the non hei distributor in and getting it started with it? I just cant for the love of me get this thing started.

Try pouring a little gas down the center carbuerator. does it run for a couple seconds?

Next try timing... 1-5-3-6-2-4 you may need to move the dizzy to optimize timing.

You mention HEI distributer. Are you still using the ignition resistor? If you are, try bypassing the resistor.

You have a multi carbs, and a new ignition. Chances are the problem is in one or the other, but it can be in both. grin

The timing could be 180° off if you're at TDC of the exhaust/intake strokes instead of the compression/fire strokes.

ow here is one thing i found on the v8's #1 on the cap is not the same on the hei that it is on the point dis. check that out.

After i cleared my head i got it running. Thanks everyone. Now to get some pipes on the headers.....its darn loud.
